Stage 1 Fire Restrictions Go Into Effect July 1st in Unincorporated Montrose County

Montrose, COLO.-- At 12:01am on July 1st , Stage 1 Fire Restrictions will be in effect for unincorporated Montrose County. Stage 1 restrictions prohibit any open burning, all fireworks, and chainsaw operations without an approved spark arrestor. All campfires and barbeque grills are prohibited except in pre-approved designated areas such as campgrounds, State Parks, and KOA’s. Smoking is prohibited except within an enclosed vehicle or building, or in a developed recreation site. These restrictions shall be in effect until rescinded.


The Stage 1 Fire Restrictions for Montrose County includes all of Montrose County, with the exception of the City of Montrose, and the Towns of Olathe, Nucla, and Naturita. These restrictions apply not only to public lands but also to private property in Montrose County. These fire restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.


Stage 1 Fire Restrictions means the following for public land and private property in Montrose County:


*No fireworks

*No open burning of any kind

*No open campfires except in a pre-approved campground, State Park or KOA. This includes no campfires in your backyard fire pit.

*No BBQ Grills with charcoals or wood or fire of any kind, except in a pre-approved campground, State Park or KOA.

*Propane Grills are ok!

*No smoking unless inside an enclosed vehicle or building, or in a developed recreation site.
